"When words fail, music speaks." - Hans Christian Anderson
West Australian Opera is proud to be integrating the research and pedagogies of The Kids Institute of Australia's Social and Emotional Wellbeing in the Arts (SEW Arts) project into all of our education and community programs.
The SEW Arts Framework, developed by The Kids Institute of Australia, highlights the profound impact of creative activity on social and emotional wellbeing, fostering personal identity, self-confidence, self-expression, and healing. They have developed pedagogical strategies that arts companies and teaching artists can adopt to promote these benefits within their community work.
By incorporating these principles, we aim to provide more than just artistic skills through our programs—our goal is to foster resilience, emotional expression, and connection within the community. This approach enriches our outreach, and assists us in creating a supportive environment where young people can explore their creativity and express their emotions through the power of music and song.
Through workshops, performances, and community initiatives, we aim to inspire creativity while contributing to the social and emotional wellbeing of participants.
